Accessibility

Everyone is welcome at the Stadtmuseum Dresden. Here you can find out what we mean by inclusion and how to plan your accessible visit to us.

Into the museum without obstacles:

The alarm in all areas is purely audible, there is no visually perceptible signal. In the elevators, the controls for activating the emergency call are tactile. The outgoing emergency call is only confirmed acoustically, not visually. Stairs are available as an alternative to all elevators.

The nearest bus stop is »Pirnaischer Platz«: It is around 100 meters from the Landhausstraße entrance and is served by lines 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 12, bus 62 and regional bus 261. 

The museums in the Landhaus are barrier-free. All exhibition rooms are accessible via a wheelchair-accessible elevator.

In the elevators, the outgoing emergency call is not confirmed visually and is purely acoustic. Stairs are available as an alternative to all elevators. The controls in the elevators are tactile. The stop positions are announced in German and English.

Assistance dogs are allowed in our shows.

The café is located on the first floor. The tables are wheelchair accessible.

Admission to the gallery costs 5 €, concessions 4 €, admission is free for children under 7.

Reduced admission is available on presentation of appropriate ID: severely disabled persons, school pupils, trainees, those doing federal voluntary service, students and ALG2 recipients. Admission is also reduced for people accompanying severely disabled persons with the »B« mark on their ID.

Wheelchairs, portable folding stools and buggies for small children can be borrowed from the ticket office. 

You can purchase tickets at the ticket office on the first floor.

Unfortunately, our staff do not speak German sign language. Important information about the building is available in written form.

The checkroom, which can be used free of charge, and the lockers are located opposite the ticket office on the first floor. They are only accessible via a small staircase. The ticket office staff will be happy to help you lock up your valuables.

Bags, rucksacks, coats and jackets must be deposited in the checkroom.

There are no step edge markings on the stairs in the building and the stairs are not visually or tactilely rich in contrast.

In the exhibitions, exhibits are only partially brightly lit for their own protection. 

The multimedia guide provides information on the permanent exhibition in plain language. This offer includes independent text access for the target group.

Corridors and circulation areas are brightly lit. Less light is permitted in the exhibitions to protect the objects.

Please let our staff know if you need to bring backpacks or drinks into the exhibition for important medication.  

The Stadtmuseum and the Städtische Galerie Dresden are located in the Landhaus. The best way to discover the permanent exhibitions of both museums is with the multimedia guide. It can be borrowed free of charge from the ticket desk and is available to download as an app.

The multimedia guide is available in German, English, Ukrainian, plain language and sign language.

You will receive a map of the building at the cash desk. You are also welcome to ask our staff for directions.

There is a disabled parking lot right next to the museum in Friesengasse. If you would like to use public transport, you will find information under the keyword »Arrival«.

The object labels are at least 14 point everywhere.

All exhibition texts are available in German and English.

Zwei spezielle Architekturmodelle ergänzen die ständige Ausstellung zur Geschichte Dresdens. Es handelt sich um Tastmodelle, welche die ehemalige Zigarettenfabrik Yenidze und die von Gottfried Semper erbaute Synagoge darstellen. Neben dem haptischen Zugang können über Kopfhörer weitere Informationen abgerufen werden.

Toilets are located on the first floor and on the second floor of the permanent exhibition. There is a baby changing facility in the wheelchair-accessible toilet on the first floor.

The stairs in the museum building are equipped with handrails. There are no step edge markings and the stairs are not visually or tactilely rich in contrast.

The entrance doors open automatically. Doors and passageways are at least 90 cm wide. Most glass doors are marked with safety markings.

Exhibits and exhibition texts can mainly be viewed and read while seated.

All exhibition rooms and publicly accessible areas can be reached by wheelchair-accessible elevators. The doors in the building do not open automatically. The security staff will be happy to assist you here.

Inclusive media guide

The media guide to the collection presentations of the Stadtmuseum and the Städtische Galerie im Landhaus offers audio tours in German, English and Ukrainian as well as in easy language and German sign language. The Mediaguide can be borrowed from the museum ticket office or used on your own device. Download the »Museen Dresden« app free of charge from the App Store or Google Play Store on your own smartphone.
