Development of an education and outreach programme for the Schillerhäuschen
The Dresden City Museum is one of the largest historical museums in Germany and forms part of the Dresden City Museums network. The Schillerhäuschen, situated in the Loschwitz district, is part of the Dresden City Museum. This historic site commemorates the writer Friedrich Schiller and provides information about his life and work. Particular emphasis is placed on his time in Dresden, his local networks and historic sites.
Opening hours are organised by the volunteer members of the Schiller und Körner in Dresden e. V. association. They ensure that the Schillerhäuschen is open to visitors and that visitors receive expert guidance.
The contract for services includes the following:
Objective/Outcome:
- Development of a museum education concept for the Schillerhäuschen and the creation of specific programmes, including an implementation plan and materials
- Presentation of a museum education concept and specific programmes for the Schillerhäuschen
- Handover of an implementation plan and materials for pupils, teachers and museum education staff
- Advising the relevant staff at the City of Dresden’s museums and the Schiller & Körner in Dresden e. V., as well as the volunteers working at the Schillerhäuschen, on the delivery of the developed programmes and on potential further training
Tasks:
- Coordination with the Museums of the City of Dresden, the Schiller & Körner in Dresden e. V. and the volunteers working at the Schillerhäuschen, incorporating ideas and materials developed to date
- Target groups:
- Lower and upper secondary school classes, particularly with regard to materials to complement lessons, tailored to the curriculum
- Children visiting individually with their families
- Open workshop and holiday programmes
- Exploring options for programmes for blind and visually impaired people and in simple language (a summary of the exhibition / basic information)
General framework:
- Alignment with the curricula for upper secondary and primary schools, as well as a regional focus (recommendation: ‘Kabale und Liebe’ as part of the school syllabus; ‘Die Räuber’ is significant in relation to Schiller’s time in Dresden and his ideas on freedom; ‘Der Handschuh’ is a possible choice for a theatre-based educational approach; Schiller’s biography and the historical context of his life for children)
- A curriculum-based and participatory approach, involving teachers and school classes in the development of the programme and materials
The remuneration is €1,800.00 gross, including ancillary costs.
Requirements:
- a completed degree in a subject relevant to museums and educational outreach
- substantial and varied experience in the design and delivery of educational and outreach programmes
- Ability to work independently and responsibly, with strong organisational skills
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Excellent communication skills
The project will be remunerated under a contract for services. The work under the contract must be completed by 31 December 2026 at the latest. The project period begins in August 2026 and initially runs until December 2026. Working hours are to be arranged flexibly; remote working is possible. Candidates must be willing to engage in regular dialogue and collaborate with the Curatorship, the Education and Outreach Department and partner organisations.

Scientific traineeship
The Museums of the City of Dresden offer two scientific traineeships.
The traineeship takes place alternately in one of the following museums: Stadtmuseum, Städtische Galerie or Dresden Technology Collections.
A university degree is a prerequisite for applying for a traineeship at the museums of the City of Dresden.
Internship
Student internship
At the Stadtmuseum Dresden, we are happy to provide insights into the complex work of a museum through a student internship. The following basic requirements must be met:
- An internship is only possible if it is an internship required by the training centre/university. A corresponding confirmation from the training centre/university must be enclosed with the application.
- The duration of the internship should be 8 to 12 weeks.
- Students must have completed at least the fourth semester.
- Foreign applicants must be fluent in written and spoken German.
the internship is not remunerated.

Federal Volunteer Service in the Education & Outreach Department
Support us with our educational and leisure programmes in the Stadtmuseum and the Städtische Galerie. You will prepare events including materials, sit in on workshops and assist our mediators, as well as keeping an overview of our workshop rooms. Ideally, you would like to write short texts for social media and take photos for them.
