With this year's theme "Between Generations", the Literary Alphabets explore a variety of questions about the relationship between generations. They ask about generational situations that can relate not only to one's own age but also to disparities between regions and countries. It is about dealing with each other's literary expressions and the possibilities of listening to each other.

With Lea Schneider and Insa Wilke, two women talk about autonomy and empathy in literature and literary criticism, about writing and being read, as well as dealing with freedom and the need to remain vulnerable. We also want to talk about Lea Schneider's new book, "Von Tieren und anderen Menschen", which will be published in autumn.

Insa Wilke is an author, literary critic, cultural manager and editor. She was born in Bremerhaven and studied German literature and history. in 2010 she published her book "Ist das ein Leben. The poet Thomas Brasch". As a literary critic, Insa Wilke publishes in the Süddeutsche Zeitung and on the radio, among other publications. In 2014, she was honoured with the Alfred Kerr Prize for Literary Criticism for her work. She also conceptualises and moderates cultural events and acts as a juror, for example for the Leipzig Book Fair Prize or the Tage der deutschsprachigen Literatur in Klagenfurt. in 2016, she took over the programme management of the Mannheim literature festival "lesen.hören" from Roger Willemsen, whose estate she manages.

Lea Schneider, born in 1989, is an essayist, poet, translator and sometimes, as she says, a literary critic. She studied sociology, linguistics and sinology, among other subjects. In addition to academic works and literary texts, her publications include translations from Chinese as well as edited works on poetry by contemporary Chinese authors. Her current thinking is focussed on attention to the more-than-human world and sensory perception as a political practice. She has received numerous accolades for her literary work, including the Dresden Poetry Prize in 2014 for her debut collection "Invasion Rückwärts". Other books include the essay "Scham", the poetry collection "made in china" and the volume "Chinabox. New Poetry from the People's Republic", which she supervised as translator and editor.

During the evening, Diana Hellwig will talk to the two guests about the similarities and differences in their own thoughts and actions based on their own biographies and geographical time units.
