Cycling through Hoyerswerda
Excursion with the ZfbK
Hoyerswerda - a centre of GDR architecture: all types of prefabricated buildings can be found there. Nowhere else in Saxony is there a comparable variety of large panelled buildings. From the mid-1950s to the completion of the large housing complexes in the 1980s, the new town was a single building site. It was designed on the drawing board as a socialist residential city for the workers of the Schwarze Pumpe power plant. However, when it closed in 1990 and the workforce moved away, the town began to shrink rapidly and entire housing complexes were "demolished" again. Since then, Hoyerswerda has undergone profound structural change, but is also full of ideas for the future thanks to a far-reaching urban development concept.
The bicycle excursion takes place in cooperation with the ZfBK - Centre for Building Culture Saxony and, in addition to the current urban development, focuses on the special features and construction phases of the residential complexes in Hoyerswerda's Neustadt district, which we will explore by bicycle.
- Start: 9.45 am, Hoyerswerda railway station (old town)
- End: approx. 6.30 pm, Hoyerswerda railway station (Old Town)
- Cost: €20 per person (cash on site)
- Please register at anmeldung@zfbk.de with your name and telephone number

Red pepper for the Yeti
Undine Materni and Volker Sielaff in reading and conversation
Undine Materni's new poems, published by Gans Verlag under the title "Manchmal ist es gut an roten Pfeffer zu denken" (Sometimes it's good to think of red pepper), tell of craftswomen and their work, their inspiration, their relationship to the things they preserve, change or create anew.
"An enchanting book that celebrates women in crafts" is the title of this special book, which features wonderful collages by Ruth Habermehl.
Undine Materni, born in 1963, is a poet, literary critic and editor and lives in Dresden. She has published numerous volumes of stories and poetry.
Volker Sielaff's new volume of poetry "Fragen an den Yeti", published by Voland & Quist / Edition Azur, once again spans a wide arc: from childhood in Lusatia to the streets of London. We meet Sylvia Plath, the birdman and an anonymous young artist.
The SZ wrote enthusiastically about this book: "In his new volume, Volker Sielaff is more perceptive, colourful and norm-obsessed than ever before."
Volker Sielaff, born in 1966, poet, prose writer and publicist, lives in Dresden. Numerous volumes of poetry, one book of prose

LIVING IN LAYERS
Workshop performance of the B:Club PLATTE
The event is already fully booked.
The "PLATTE" often doesn't have a good reputation: grey, monotonous, lots of people in a small space and the associated problems. But in the GDR, a flat in a prefabricated building was highly coveted - and isn't the "Platte" cult again today?
In cooperation with the Stadtmuseum, the participants of the B:Club of the Staatsschauspiel Dresden developed their own view of prefabricated buildings and the special exhibition. They collected scenes, archived personal experiences, explored associations and dreamed into the future.
What did we associate with the "Platte" in the past and what do we associate with it today? How would a prefabricated flat have to be designed for us to want to live here? What will happen to industrial housing in the future? And how will future generations view housing in prefabricated panel construction?
The workshop performance WOHNEN IN SCHICHTEN invites the audience on a theatrical tour of the exhibition with perspectives on and from the "Platte".
- Price: 6 € per person
